Review of The Vatican Tapes (2015) by Ivy M — 16 Nov 2015
The vatican tapes offers nothing new of your textbook possession "thriller". the only things it really does differently are the build up to the climax containing what feels like an entire 30 minutes dedicated to the overshadowed shot of the left of Peter Anderson (cardinal brunn)'s face while his sexual-predator-esque whispering voice is used for every emotion in dialogue and three chicken eggs that represent the holy trinity, which the movie is determined to spell out for the audience as "the father, the son, and the holy spirit" like any other possession/ghost movie has not already used without treating its audience like a 10 year old venturing into horror movies for the first time.
this movie is extremely watchable as the "background noise" kind of movie, because you know what's going to happen as it's been done time and time again. With no real characters to relate or care about.
Out of many unlikely things, the priests seem to be sponsored by apple products and know more than the average father of film editing and IT skills as the movie opens up to them freezing and "enhancing" on one frame of tape that somehow shows that they see the antichrist, all on two apple iMacs side by side.
