Review of The Vanishing (1993) by Dawdlingpoet — 27 Nov 2021
This is very much a film about isolation, guilt and greed. Its fairly sinister and its certainly black - not only in tone but also in terms of lighting, with a few scenes being really quite hard to figure out what's going on, on screen, so its preferable to watch this with the proverbial curtains drawn.
I found the plot a little confusing at times but its reasonably atmospheric and the acting is ok in it. Gerard Butler being the angry, mad Scotsman was worth seeing I suppose! if your a fan of him, esp.
bearded Gerard Butler(!). I'm not sure if it entirely lives up to the tag line but its an entertaining and somewhat creepy watch, which overall I would still recommend, even though it could be better, yes.
