Review of The Valley of Gwangi (1969) by Ryan V — 05 Sep 2016
The Valley of Gwanji is set in Mexico and its titular monster is an allosaurus, but its plot points are shamelessly lifted from King Kong. Of course, anyone who seeks out this film will do so for the kitsch value of watching live action cowboys fight stop motion dinosaurs.
The Valley of Gwanji does not disappoint in the category of prehistoric mayhem; the sequence where the posse lassos the allosaurus belongs in the B-movie hall of fame. The Valley of Gwanji is a bit slight when compared to Ray Harryhausen vehicles like Jason & The Argonauts of the 7th Voyage of Sinbad, but it's still a fun movie for the connoisseur of celluloid schlock.
