Review of The Valet (2006) by Nonnya B — 11 Sep 2007
Veber (La Cage aux folles, The Closet) brings us another trademark breezy french farce. Billionaire Levasseur (Auteuil) has his photo snapped by the paparazzi when with his mistress Elena (Taglioni) Levasseur fears a costly divorce from his wife (Kristin Scott Thomas). As another man (Elmaleh) is in the paparazzi photo as well, Levasseur commissions him to pretend to be the boyfriend of his supermodel mistress. Wackiness ensues.
Obviously there are further complications, but i'll leave those for your viewing. This was a brisk and easy 85 minutes, that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun diversion. Quick dialogue and well executed scenes highlight this film, and keep it from over the top reaches at comedy (which the french aren't known for to begin with).
I'd recommend watching this one before it's remade with Richard Gere and Scarlett Johannsen.
