Review of The Valet (2006) by Issam S — 24 Nov 2007
I started watching this out of pure boredom and was pleasantly surprised when I noticed how genuinely funny this movie really was, right away in the first few minutes. I don't think I've ever even laughed so hard while watching a foreign film such as this in an incredibly long time. The version I saw was subtitled in English (because I don't speak French obviously) so I'm sure I missed out on a bunch of things through the translation, but from what I heard, the dialogue and the characters were really well written, and it's a shame that I couldn't experience the real thing.
While the plot didn't seem incredibly original at first, the characters grew on me right away and the relationships portrayed between the families, friends, and everyone else seemed really interesting. The movie as a whole also had a really nice charm to it, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good romantic comedy, or even a good laugh in general.
