Review of The Valet (2006) by Hassan K — 25 Apr 2008
A very funny little farce which is equally smart as it is sweet. Daniel Auteil portrays French magnate Pierre Levasseur who is photographed with another women insists that Francois Pignon (Gad Elmaleh) was the one who kissed her.
Auteuil has been playing this kind of role for many of his movies lately and I must admit, he is very good at giving a different spin on his characters. He is very refreshing in this film and arguably, he is on a tight leash by stony and hard to-be-divorced-wife, brilliantly portrayed by Kristin Scott Thomas. Alice Taglioni gives a very funny and seductive performance as Elena, the famed supermodel who does fall in love with Francois after the scheme is done.
This film was a great farce and full of laughs. A typical, sweet and sharp French comedy.
