Review of The Valet (2006) by Andrew W — 06 Jul 2008
Oh to be a Frenchman! Floating lazily along the Seine, baguette in hand, flipping through the pages of a Dumas work. Sadly, the life of a Parisian is not all fun and games, sometimes they have to go to the theater.
Watching La Doublure is like listening to a knock-knock joke; it's short, funny, and the story is bullshit. The acting was pretty good overall, too bad the characters are so shallow. The movie is generally humorous throughout, but I'm sure some jokes were lost in translation.
I enjoyed this movie for the fact that it is so distant from American comedies. It doesn't try to get laughs with pratfalls or witty dialog, instead it goes for the classic situation-comedy approach.
This may seem a bit dated in the US, but it's nice to know it's still being tried somewhere.
