Review of The Usual Suspects (1995) by Vitor A — 08 Sep 2012
"The Usual Suspects": There's nothing "usual" about this movie. This is one of those masterpieces impossible to classify. Starting from a policial principle, Bryan Singer follows the paths of five criminals which the New York police department ends up by putting together.
Now, what comes next is much more than anyone would expect from such a plot. "The Usual Suspects" evolves into a dark ambience, populated by suspicion, bizarre crimes and a strong psychological strain.
At the epicenter of all this stands the mythical figure of a supercriminal, a nearly-phantomatic individual, who ends up by controlling and playing with the fate of every single character involved in the "game".
A powerful and labyrinthic work of art.
