Review of The Usual Suspects (1995) by Jackson C — 26 Feb 2013
What seems like a typical 90's crime thriller is a lot more interesting and fun than most would think. The Usual Suspects strings together a group of interesting characters in an interluded storyline that is fascinating and unexpected.
Even though my initial estimation was correct, it was not without a series of doubt, surprise and ultimately conviction to find out about the unexpected. Visually, the film is also extremely stylish. The combination of a solid story with interesting, rememberable characters guarantees The Usual Suspects a place in film history and worthy of repeated viewings.
Just as the film title suggest, the group of characters would be considered the "usual" in most circumstances, but in this case they are anything but "usual", just like the film itself, The Usual Suspects is anything but a usual crime thriller.
