Review of The Usual Suspects (1995) by Liam C — 10 May 2014
I still can't really believe what I just saw, the scriptwriters must have been drunk or high or something when they came up with this, it's just all over the place and it jumps timelines and goes everywhere and it's a surprise that it's actually really well made and that it doesn't just cave in on itself and that's because of the controlled direction by Singer who keeps a firm grasp on everything and it's a very amazing first effort(Public Access doesn't count), but of course you knew that already because this movie has gone down in history and everyone knows what it is.
The cast is what makes it though, it's a delightful, colourful selection of scumbags and all the actors play their parts very well and it's nice that some of them are not so well known actors too.
Del Toro was one of my favourites and he made me laugh a lot, Kevin Spacey was excellent also. It's a slickly made thrill ride that just gets layer after layer and deeper and deeper and you can't look away until the edge of your seat finale and those final few minutes are really amazing and memorable.
I'll definitely see it again and with the knowledge that you know from seeing it the first time it'll make seeing it again a very new experience.
