Review of The Usual Suspects (1995) by Drew B — 10 Jan 2014

Singer's film about a group of criminals involved in a three million dollar heist as told in voiceover by onw of the men involved tends to be a little overrated. In truth, there are some signs of creativity and there is an intelligence in the film's screenplay that allows it to have an intricate storyline without the story ever really feeling overwhelmingly confusing.

However, it is the colourful characters that make the story come alive, and with them the actors that perform them. A compact visual style by Singer makes it look incredibly cool, and in fact it's almost a shame that he eventually got lost in the world of superhero movies that somewhat underwhelmed his talent for more interesting pictures.
