Review of The Upside of Anger (2005) by Sean T — 20 Jun 2007
Excellent movie about an alcoholic mother raising four daughters around the turn of adulthood and her relationship with a former baseball player, who becomes her drinking buddy. There is a ton to admire about this movie - the chemistry with the mother/daughter relationships is never contrived and the movie tends to portray alcoholic mothers in a more positive light, something you won't see in everyday cinema.
Joan Allen's performance is breathtaking and should not be missed and even Costner musters enough talent to make a good romantic partner for Allen. One of the top 5 movies of 2005.
