Review of The Upside of Anger (2005) by Shayla M — 29 Jun 2010
This film can be called a lot of things like a family drama or a comedy either way The Upside Of Anger is good in each aspect. It has a lot of things going for it like its heart or its charm and contributes to both the drama and the comedy part.
Look at the two main actors Kevin Costner is mainly there for the comedy aspect and Joan Allen is there for the drama aspect but both do their parts in the other aspects. The main main thing about this film and why I like it so much is Joan Allen, she was great in every scene.
She shows her emotion perfectly she can be sad and angry or happy and joyful. She can also scare you pretty good as well with her facial expressions and you know exactly what she's feeling. As for Costner, he was good but nowhere near Joan Allen's level but he did contribute to most of the comedy.
The supporting actors were good as well ranging from Erika Christensen, Evan Rachel Wood, Kerri Russell, Alicia Witt. Who played the 4 daughters and if I had to pick one who gave the best performace I would say Evan Rachel Wood, she and Allen had some great scenes together and turned out at the end that they did love each other.
The writing was very smart and thats what like most about comedies they gotta be smart and sometimes random and this film was. It can be predictable at times and the ending I kinda saw coming after a while.
And Joan Allen was so good that nobody was really on her level and I thought everybody fed off of her. And she was so good that I thought an Oscar nomination was derserving but she didn't get one of course she played her character perfectly.
This is a good film and something I can watch over again. 80%.
