Review of The Untouchables (1987) by Izi M — 23 Apr 2011
What a waste!...What a gigantic waste!....To assemble such an arsenal and come with a product so mediocre shd be an achievement in itself and smhow Brian dePalma was able to manage that!!...
Initially I thought he is poking fun at those time(30's) and gangster flicks of 70's but realized to my horror that wasn't the case.Palma is neither Coen Brothers who wd integrate subtle humor with violence to create the irony and neither he is Woody Allen ready to mock at everything. He wants to be taken seriously and still comes out with a ludicrously melodramatic ,full of cliches & devoid of any realism venture in spite of it being based on real events abt how Elliot Ness's "Untouchables" tried to take on mobster Al Capone during prohibition. For once even Ennio Morricone looks bland and unexciting.
Unbelievably overrated.
