Review of The Untouchables (1987) by Timothy S — 31 May 2013
When Robert DeNiro playing Al Capone is one of the weaker elements of a film, you've got a winner on your hands. Great writing from David Mamet, though it does liberally break from the true story upon which it's based.
It also boasts one of Sean Connery's best performances, along with great turns from a large supporting cast and Kevin Costner in a role that solidified him as a star. Old Chicago has rarely looked better on film, and Brian DePalma does not mess around when it comes to going full steam into the story.
Ennio Morricone, as always, provides a stellar score. I don't often watch The Untouchables, but when I do, I'm reminded of the many things that have made me fond of it for years.
