Review of The Unseeable (2006) by Amy C — 08 Oct 2007
I don't have a lot of experience watching Thai horror films because I haven't heard of very many. If this film is any indication then they should keep making them but maybe stick to their own original ideas and not borrow heavily from M. Night Shaylaman (sp?).
Despite using a similar idea The Unseeable prospers from a cast of wigged out characters, some nice creepy set pieces and a beautiful shooting location plus an ending that some may find predictable but for me it still worked.
The film has a pregnant woman arriving at a high class villa/estate for no apparent reason except for a place to rest. She gets taken by the cruel keeper of the villa and befriends another odd but seemingly warm lady. Soon strange occurances, noises and other spooky happenings start to linger plus the legend of the family who might or might not still reside on the property play a major part.
The unseeable may lag towards the middle, I found myself drifting off but once everything is nicely set up for the ending, the pay off is worth it and if your watching you should try and pay attention closely (even if I didn't) to get full closure of the events.
Not the most original but entertaining, nice twists and some good characters make the Unseeable worth checking out.
