Review of The United States of Leland (2003) by Hannah M — 25 Feb 2008
You know, I've seen this movie before. It didn't really provide much of an interesting or unique approach to what could be considered a very intriguing concept for a film. It's not enough to have good actors in a movie, they actually need to be doing something.
Going somewhere. Giving us something to work with. And the only one I felt achieved that to some extent was Don Cheadle's character and, at times, Chris Klein's. Kevin Spacey is good at playing at an asshole but in this case, why was he like that? What purpose did his character serve other than sitting in a bar being a jerk? I felt like I was merely a spectator and not really apart of anything going on, therefore I didn't really care when it ended.
It tried to pack a punch there in the last 15 minutes, but I was already pretty much out of it to muster up any sensitivity. It's too bad, really. This could have really gone places.
