Review of The Underneath (1995) by Evan K — 04 Jan 2011
"For passion, betrayal and murder... there's still no place like home.".
Michael Chambers (Gallagher) returns home to celebrate his mother's marriage. Michael had been ousted from his home town due to his gambling indiscretions and had left his wife(Elliott) to deal with the mess he created. He now must reassimulate back into the town, renew his relationships with his family and friends (and enemies) and, most-of-all, seek out his ex-wife to woo her again. Also features Adam Trese as his brother, Paul Dooley as his step-father, Elisabeth Shue as a love interest, Joe Don Baker as his new boss, and William Fichtner as the gangster.

Susan Crenshaw: Are you getting off at Austin?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Tommy Dundee: Heard you moved.
Michael Chambers: My mother's getting married.
Rachel: To who?
Michael Chambers: Good guy.
Rachel: Never heard of him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Rachel: This is my problem: when I think about trying with you again, I have no idea if it's a moment of strength, or a moment of weakness.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Ed Dutton: Michael, when you get to be my age you realize that sometimes the planets just don't line up. And there's nothing you can do about it.
Ed Dutton: Of course sometimes they do line up. And there's nothing you can do about that either.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Michael Chambers: There's what you want, and there's what's good for you. Ah, they never meet.
Susan Crenshaw: They never meet.
Michael Chambers: Except for my mother and step-father.
Susan Crenshaw: Maybe they think they're wrong for each other.
Michael Chambers: Nah, they're too old fashion.
Susan Crenshaw: Then why do anything with anybody?
Michael Chambers: Because anything is better than nothing.
Susan Crenshaw: The idea that you think you make sense is terrifying.
Michael Chambers: Ya, I know.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Rachel: Michael. Right?
