Review of The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) by Jaime M — 27 Dec 2010
Its hard to bring such an existential novel like this to the screen because most of the 'action' of the book constitutes of the characters self examination and thought process and unless you use a cheesy voiceover youâ(TM)re going to lose that in a film adaptation.
Added to that when you consider the bizarre decision to use accents and the frankly uncomfortable 3 hours length it all points to the fact that you'd be much better off reading the book. But then isn't that usually the case ?
