Kept switching back and forth between really good and nauseatingly terrible. With a whole lot of "boring" in between. At first, I wasn't sure quite what to make of it...

Yeah, it has some clever moments and an interesting premise, but in my opinion, when a movie like this only gets it about half right, it's not half as fun or romantic. It's just tragic.

Oh yeah, and it's offensive. To both sexes.

In fact, despite all the crap this movie gets for being misogynist. What actually appalled me the most was it's portrayal of MEN ...and I don't defend them that often.

I mean, yeah, it's offensive to women too, but not much more than a lot of other romantic comedies. So that didn't shock me. Yes, it's annoying, but it didn't shock me.

Hell, if anything it's offensive to people simply because of how one-dimensional the characters are.

And also, y'know, for thinking anyone would actually be dumb enough to pay money to see this shi- ... oh wait, over 88 million at the box office? I guess the joke is on us (fortunately I watched it online for free. hehehe).

Anyway, I think a lot of the misogyny people are seeing here though is in the actions of the male characters. But think about this: in the end ~spoiler~ Katherine Hegl's character kind of "redeems" Gerard Butler by (of course...) healing his oh-so-damaged-for-some-vague-ass-reason heart and getting him to fall for her.

Oh yeah, and the guy they tried to replace him with on the show pretty much turned out to be a rapist. ...this is played for comedy. Like "oh, gross! Hahaha, he's an even bigger pig than the other guy. Awwwkward! Cut to commercial.".

Umm, no. Just no. Do I even have to explain that one to you?

And taking into consideration the fact that the screenplay was written by three *women* well basically, to some extent anyway, **this is how they believe men really act!** This is the message they're sending. "The Ugly Truth". Even if it's meant to be an exaggeration. It's insulting.

Wow. Like I said, I don't often defend men. I get that men and women often seem to be from different planets but.. ouch. I'd be offended if I were them.
