The Two Popes is really about four popes - the two real popes and the two popes in popular culture. This movie tries to make the conflict in the Catholic Church interesting - is the current downturn in church attendance caused by too much or too little liberalism.
The acting is top-notch but the script is dull and down not take into consideration the fact that men become popes only if they are part of the power structure. Imagine a President selected by the senate.
