Well-acted by the central trio of actors (with Issac pipping Mortensen by a whisker) and directed with both feet firmly planted in a 40s noir, this is a good looking (and/but - depending on one's taste) also a very old fashioned kind of film.

The script is solid and maintains its suspense and thrills - that is, until a somewhat confusing and unconvincing ending comes along and let the whole film down; fudging major characterization built up so far and is sadly underwhelming.

Flawed but still worth a look on a drippy wet Sunday afternoon, for example.
