Review of The Two Faces of January (2014) by Rendy S — 18 Sep 2014
"The Two Faces of January" starts out well and remains entreating for the first half and then descends into repetition and cliche. Each actor brings something valuable to the movie and if the characters were more developed or exciting beyond surface coolness, one could see a damn fine modern Hitchcock movie.
The question is: would the movie work if it had been released half a decade or more ago? Doubtful. One more gripe is the use of a digital camera - the depth of field and contrast end up weakening the movie's goal of being a throwback - but, budgets are tight and studios are little children (we make millions by not shooting on film but not we're going after you, the consumer, if you download our overpriced product) so to expect film is rather foolish .
