Review of The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) by Cheryl L — 09 Mar 2013
NEW MOON: BOOK.
-Short Paragraph Review.
"Edward leaves Bella after a (birthday gone wrong) commotion in the Cullen's house that left Bella badly injured. When Edward and his family decide to leave her, hoping she would live a normal life without him, it puts her in multiple life-threatening situations in which Bella joyfully seeks so...that she could see short glimpses of Edward's ghost (?) She then abuses her relationship with Jacob so that she could do more life-threatening activities such as jumping off a cliff and riding a fixed up motorcycle. Jacob, however, is a werewolf which makes him an interesting character because it's a rather nice change to read someone who is described as happy, playful, yet aggressively mad and human. I liked the way the author shifts her story from vampires to the pack of werewolves to the law abiding Volturi's. It gives us, the reader, something more to chew on than sparkly vampires who carelessly leave to have vulnerable Bella Swan fend herself from a vengeful Victoria (James lover), a pack of aggressive werewolves, Laurent and later on, the Volturi. It's dark, better written, descriptive, equal parts suspenseful but such a weak, self-inflicting entry.".

NEW MOON: MOVIE.
Review: the twilight saga: new moon.
"It definitely gets props for being a more developed, more moody film but it's not necessarily fun.".
Story: 3.0.
So continues the story of Edward and Bella, whose love is entangled in myth, danger, and the lust for blood. When Edward leaves Bella, due to a paper cut that escalated into some broken bones, she phases into this sort of deep depression. She finds her joy in adrenaline and violent movies in the comfort of her long childhood friend, Jacob Black. The story is a lot better in the book because its consistently engaging. When we get introduced to Jacob this time, their friendship is rowdy and often times, really fun. The movie is kind of interesting in some scenes but like I said, reviewing it as a whole, it's lacking in any sense of suspense. You can sense the danger given in the absence of Edward leave but it's not satisfying.
Acting: 0.5.
Although, in the book, it sounds like the normal chick flick blather. Kristen Stewart looks and acts so convincingly wounded that it would be hard for the audience not feel for her. She matches these kinds of roles, from "Speak" to "Welcome to the Rileys." She has this unique sincerity especially when confronting Jacob Black, played by the buff Taylor Lautner. Taylor Lautner is okay. He's plays a really swell, buff 16 years old. His 8 pack abs is well deserved for the screams produced by the audience. However, he needs more experience in the film industry because I won't see him win any grand awards any time soon. Edward, seems all the more like a cardboard box, broods a lot more in this story which makes his character a passing thought. He mostly says a few lines and widens his eyes. Robert Pattinson...not so well performance in this one. When introduced to the Volturi, Martin Sheen (accent) and Dakota Fanning (red eyes) are very good. However that's not very good to entertain us, the scene only lasted 10 mins.
Special Effects: 0.5.
A lot better than the first movie. When Victoria is running through the woods, instead of having her move in fast motion and skidding all over the place, the whole scene is shot slower with her blurry body to show how fast she was going. They even add an eagle, which is normally flying fast, slowing down compared to her speed. This whole scene, lost in the sound of Thom Yorke, is one of my favorites in the whole series. Overall, this movie is all up to its production, everything else is watchable but it's not as great even though with the exception of some scenes (Victoria, Werewolves, Laurent and the Volturi).
-1.0 for negatives.
Final Rating: 61%.
The Soundtrack is great! More indie-rock artists such as The Grizzly Bears, The Killers, SeaWolf, Muse, Florence & the Machines, etc. - 8.9.
The Score has its bland tracks. It does differ from Carter Burwell's twilight score; it's more longer, more orchestral and fuller than the previous simple tracks. -7.3.
DUBBED: A DARKER FILM THAT ISN'T AS ENJOYABLE AS THE FIRST EVEN IF IT HAS MORE SUPPORTING CHARACTERS.
AWARDED: STRANGELY ENTERTAINING.
Overall 7.3/10.
