Review of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011) by Nelson H — 29 Nov 2012
Backstory: plan to watch Part 2 with my wife this weekend, so we decided to catch up on Part 1 last night. Obviously these movies are not catered towards my demographic, so I will try to focus on the movie as a whole.
First the Good; the story was somewhat engaging enough to get my attention. The conflicts are easy to follow (never read the books) and not too hard to understand. I do like the make up and effects done on Bella as she slowly gets her life sapped from her child.
The Bad: Once again, the acting is horrible (though better than the first one I saw). In particular, Robert Pattinson has got to be one of the worst actors in film these days; it really is laughable. Kristin Stewart continues to play the awkward girl, and I am not sure if it is intentional. The CGI looks sub par (especially with the Wolves and their transformation; really looks low budget). I want to dig into the story too (i.e. why is Jacob still following Bella around), but again, I get this is for female viewers, so whatever.
Overall: A slight improvement from an earlier Twilight film I saw a few years ago, but I still do not understand the hype around these films.
