Review of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011) by Jillian L — 09 Jul 2013
Don't judge me. I read the books in middle school, saw the first movie and gave up. But then I got dragged to the second and third, so now I might as well finish them. And I was actually...engaged the entire time? I think this was mostly due to funny moments that weren't supposed to be funny.
.. Anyway, there were some super cheesy camp going on here. Literally in the first minute, Taylor Lautner's shirt was off. Then there were the dreams, imprinting, stuff inside Bella and Jacob's head, and it was pretty laughable.
But I will say (dare I say...) that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart actually had chemistry? I mean they were also dating at the time of filming, so that probably helped. Another positive thing, as far as adaptations go, this was actually decent.
It remained true to the book while knowing what to get rid of. But in the end, this source material is so bad it doesn't matter how hard the filmmakers try. Although I'll probably watch part two eventually.
..
