Review of The TV Set (2007) by Joseph C — 22 Jul 2008
"She doesn't let her cuteness get in the way of her hotness.".
The exec who gushes this bit of meaningless praise (Sigourney Weaver) lives in a world where irony, downbeat endings, and such unpleasantnesses as suicide are to be avoided at all costs. "Suicide is depressing to. like, 82 percent of everybody," she tells David Duchovny's TV producer, who's just trying to get his personal, character driven show on the air at a network celebrating the success of its latest reality show, "Slut Wars.".
Funny, winking, and knowing, "The TV Set" is based in part off writer-director Jake Kasdan's experiences on the failed TV shows "Freaks and Geeks," "Undeclared," and "Grosse Pointe.".
