Review of The Tuskegee Airmen (1995) by Gwen D — 16 Nov 2008
Loved this film. The based-on-truth story of the 332nd Army Air Force squadron, who were all black, in a time of a segregated army. The story covers their personal triumphs and tragedies as they become (or fail to become) pilots, with much higher obstacles to over come than white pilots.
It also covers the attempts by at least one politician to shut down the "experiment" and the methods he used. Finally it relates their justification as being the nest escort service available for Berlin air raids.
The whole thing was uplifting and the acting was great. The period details looked as authentic as I have seen, and if it isn't totally true to life, who cares? It's not a documentary. Loved it! Watch it!
