Review of The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996) by Roderick E — 03 Mar 2008
An intelligent chick flick and a delightful surprise it has a clever and sensitive script that doesn't (usually) pander to the lowest common denominator.
Feisty brainy Janeane Garofalo has no problem making us believe whole heartedly in her contradictory character.
Uma Thurman has much more of a challenge in making the stereo typical "dumb blond" a complex character, she succeeds rather well although there are some forgivable weak spots (more due to script and directing than her acting ability). There is fabulous chemistry of the films three central characters and the way the film portrays women's friendships and insecurities I felt was far more realistic that something like "Bridget Jones Diary".
I liked this film and will watch it again.
