This biting dark comedy tells the story of a man coming to the realisation that his whole life has been followed by cameras for a reality TV show. It's a satirical comment on pop culture but also the gripping tale of the desperation of a man who feels his world coming down on him as he realises that his real world was never real to begin with.

But what is striking is the way in which director Peter Weir lets his film be naturally infused with a sense of tenderness that avoids the coldness of most of the films that deal with the theme of the power of media on the people.

Jim Carrey turns in another great performance as Truman, and the film is entertaining as well as thought provoking.
