Review of The Truman Show (1998) by Tatsuhito K — 15 Dec 2014
When I first saw The Truman Show, I remember it being a masterpiece, but I forgot why. After a second viewing of it years later, I remember why. The Truman Show is an original movie that was masterfully done well.
It's directed very well by Peter Weir with a great script by Andrew Niccol. The premise may seem like a one joke movie, but Peter Weir and Andrew Niccol took advantage of it and create a story for it that's really interesting and really good.
Of course with Jim Carrey, it's going to be a comedy film, but there's actually some drama scenes, that were really done well and Jim Carrey, while being really funny in this, is a great drama actor in this that shows that he's not just a comedian.
The subtle humor in it is really obvious, but it was intentional that way and it works in that type of premise. The acting is really good, and are really funny too in this. It is really thought-provoking and does leave you wondering about what you would do in this situation.
The music, while some intentionally sappy for some comedic stuff, are really catchy and just gets you excited. The characters are memorable, and the ending is wonderfully well done. The Truman Show is an excellent movie that is not like anything you see from an average movie.
