Review of The Truman Show (1998) by Ben B — 28 May 2016
Undeniably one of the best movies from the 90s, this dramedy starring funnyman Jim Carrey (in a Golden Globe-winning performance) takes a satirical approach at reality TV. Happy-go-lucky Truman Burbank (Carrey) is a real man in a simulated world broadcast around the globe as 'The Truman Show'.
After 30 years unaware of being on the air, Truman soon realizes everything he knows about the world isn't what it seems. Show-creator Christof (played by Ed Helms in an Oscar-nominated role) is suddenly forced to thwart Truman's escape from his zoo-like surroundings.
Now it's rare nowadays to find originality in anything on the screen (large and small), and this rare gem is truly the very definition of 'original'. The acting, directing, script, and musical score are grade-A work, and the film itself will hopefully be recalled as a modern classic in the near future.
