Review of The Truman Show (1998) by Your Movie S — 30 Oct 2012
Not only a stunning critique on society's obsession with "reality" TV, but also a mesmerizing religious commentary on the relationship between creation and creator. The character Christof (get it? Christ!) gives you a whole feast for thought on the nature and personality of God. What does God have to do besides care for his creations? To test them and to push them to their limits, but only in the desire to see them succeed in the end? But with so much control, is it not predestination...? Usually, in the religious sense, I find Lucifer to be a much more fascinating character. But this film has made me see the utter complexity of whatever God may be out there.
Goodness, I could write an essay right now.
