Arguably one of if not Jim Carrey's finest films, proof along with Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that he is much more than a rubbery face and loud noises.
The Truman Show is an incredibly unique experience, with an almost dreamlike quality the titular Truman lives the perfect existence, until piece by piece his dreamy life unravels and he finds out that his entire existence is a lie. And a television show broadcast 24/7 to the whole world.
The Truman Show broadcasts Jim Carrey's sheer depth of emotions as an actor, far more than any of his OTT films ever could. You really feel for Truman, rooting for him to uncover the truth of his life and the sleepy 'town' around him. Then you realise you are just as much of a voyeur and participant as the 'audience' watching him at home and it becomes even more poignant. Special mention also to the supporting cast, notably Ed Harris as the narcissistic auteur Christof, who almost views Truman as his own son, despite exploiting him since birth.
Unmissable and gripping, even years after I first managed to view The Truman Show.
