Review of The Trouble with Harry (1955) by Globe_Trotter — 23 May 2008
Hitchcock displayed his unusual humor in this movie. It is a dark comedy for its day but not so dark by our standards now. It is funny how everyone has a reason to bury Harry's corpse and hide his death and the same people will find a reason to dig him up again to show that he's dead.
The cast was superb. Shirley MacLaine was sooo young in this movie. It's hard to believe that John Forsythe had dark hair at one time. Mildred Natwick has always been one of my favorite actresses and didn't receive as much recognition as she should have for her accomplishments.
Hitchcock has always been acredited for his suspense movies but his comedies have been overlooked. I guess if you know what you're good at, you should stick to it. But this is still a good movie to watch.
A bit of Hitchcock trivia...They started filming this movie in New England, but couldn't continue, so the first scenes of the town with the fall colors are real. The rest of the movie was done on a set in California. They picked millions of fall leaves and shipped them from New England to California for the movie's authenticity. Hitchcock was an artist and it shows.
