Review of The Tripper (2006) by Grëg W — 10 May 2009
One of the first movies in the Afterdark Horror Film Fest, I don't think this is really deserving to be in a film festival deemed "too violent for theaters". this is pretty tame compared to stuff like saw or hostel.
the plot here is pretty decent and plays out pretty well, though. it centers around a group of hippie friends who are traveling to a woodstock like concert. meanwhile, they run into trouble with some stupid rednecks and a serial killer wearing a ronald reagan mask.
and everyone knows reagan hates hippies. I was surprised to see some pretty big name people in here, especially since it was directed by david arquette. jason mewes, paul reubens, thomas jane, and even a cameo by wes craven.
the film style in this was pretty good, especially when people were high. it made you see what they saw and feel what they felt. like I said before though, I think the violence was kind of lame. especially the scene where jason mewes gets his hand cut off and yells, "hey man what the f**k".
I realize this movie was a tribute to older slasher movies, but come on, that was pretty dumb. overall, though its a decent slasher and keeps you entertained.
