Review of The Triplets of Belleville (2003) by Edgar C — 17 Dec 2012
Didn't need to worry about subtitles with this one, for it has a silent script. It started out slow with a dark tone, but as it progressed the creatively peculiar imagery gave it sheen, however peculiar it is. I found myself getting absorbed not only with the caricature-sque images (without the ludicrousness of caricatures) but with the story itself. Despite the bizarre, such as the stoicism of the cyclist boy, the odd dreams of Bruno the dog, and triplets' diet of frog soup, roasted frog and dried tadpoles, it will give you the laughs and will move you with its beautiful narrative. The closing lines (among the very few lines) closed it well:
Madam Souza: Is the movie over? Don't you want to tell grandma? Is the movie over?
Grandson (in his adult age): It's finished, grandma. 6/23/11.
