Review of The Triplets of Belleville (2003) by Manolo C — 24 Mar 2011
People have said for a long time, and with a great deal of authority as they came down from some high latitude with block of chiseled rock with the guidelines to artistic merit, that the first rule of art is to always "bring the truth.
" There's nothing particularly profound about this movie, but the execution completely shows us how animation can and more often should be utilized. Everything on screen is a scathingly but carefully and lovingly caricatured: athletes, dogs, dog owners, celebrities, movie bad guys, chase scenes, gambling, music and performers, humanity in general, and just about anything else contained within.
Everything we've seen before is painstakingly heightened by the animation, and for that alone - just to look at this movie - it's worth checking out. Often funny, often grotesque, but always true.
