Review of The Trip to Bountiful (1985) by Jessica R — 10 Nov 2008
A very touching story about a person's devotion to return to the past. Adapted from Horton Foote's stage play, the trip to bountiful is a touching "dramady" about Carrie Watts' longing to end her remaining years back in Bountiful, Tx.
Geraldine Page gives a stunning performance as Carrie, making her into a flesh-and-blood person rather than limiting to the dimensions of the television screen. Also of note, Carlin Glynn is wonderful as Jesse Mae, playing the daughter-in-law as both spoiled and heartfelt, not damning to be the antagonist but still serves as Carrie's foil with her constant whining and demanding attitude.
