Review of The Trip (2011) by Tony E — 15 Jul 2011
This film is, at its core, a buddy movie, but not at all the norm. Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, playing fictionalized versions of themselves, spend a week on an inn-and-restaurant tour of northern England. Their chemistry (first exhibited when they played fictionalized versions of themselves in the criminally overlooked Tristram Shandy - A Cock and Bull Story) is great and they are both very funny. Don't expect much to happen - this film is almost entirely about the gentle competitive friction between them and their witty banter.
I would probably rate this film higher but it is an edited-down version of a 6-episode BBC series which I have seen, and they removed some of my favorite bits. Still very funny and well worth seeing.
