Review of The Trip (2011) by Paul B — 29 Oct 2011
Not unlike a screen adaptation of a novel, it's unfair to compare this film to the original 6-part BBC television series from which it was edited down. But in this compressed and renavigated version of a much more dense (and funnier) narrative, critical character developments are abandoned, subtext is lost, and the pacing is hobbled.
Even though editing choices were necessary and surely difficult, here they are simply the means to an end. So, not unlike the novel that has been adapted for the screen, you should seek out The Trip's source material.
