Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by Ray J — 22 Aug 2015
Let me preface this by saying I don't think this it at all a masterpiece in any sense of the word.
My biggest gripe is that the much overextended "creation of the universe/dinosaur mercy" scene was completely unnecessary, and it's absence in the movie wouldn't have hurt it all. In fact, I think it would've benefited it. When it did focus on the family, is where it shined through.
And of course, the visuals are some of the best I've ever seen in a movie, probably ever.
Still, though, I wish the movie was solely about one dysfunctional family, and not an overly obvious Christian allegory. That being said, I still enjoyed the movie.
