Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by Joe E — 08 Sep 2012
The core story is very strong and the performances are amazing. Unfortunately, you have to sit through about 45 minutes of overly pretentious babble to get to that point. People actually walked out of the show I went to.
It is terribly distracting and you easily lose track of the real story. By the end, I forgave the director because the rest of the film is well-done and very touching. It's just a shame that the beginning is so.
.. "artsy," and not in a good way.
