Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by Rex A — 22 Oct 2013
I understand what the director was trying to do when making this film - compare the life a human being with the life of the universe - and the idea has the potential to make a good film, but this is not it.
The visual aspect of the film is stunning and this kept me interested for a while, but the actually plot is boring. The life being followed is that of an ordinary boy in 1960s America - there's nothing remotely interesting about him so why try to compare his life with the grandeur and mysteries of the entire universe? I didn't even make it halfway through this one, but I'll give it two stars for the ideas it represents and the fact that it looks beautiful.
