Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by Georgia K — 07 Jul 2014
The Tree Of Life is like an interesting art installation. Like an art piece, it feels so damn personal. You don't fully understand it, but you know there's something interesting there. But talking in terms of cinema, I can barely call this a film because it's intention is vague and though you know it's about a family and the walks of life, there's still this emptiness as if the film was about nothing.
I remember feeling somewhat mesmerized, but time and thought revealed that the film is sort of full of crap. Like I said, it's Terence's personal project, so you can't hate on someone's vision.
But at the same time, we all have our own visions, so it's no surprise that a lot of viewers won't see eye to eye with him. I would be careful not to get lost in this film, or else it can swallow you in and make you believe it is something it really is not.
Thanks for sharing your vision Mr. Malick, but you can't expect everyone to see it all the same from your perspective.
