Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by Erin Y — 31 Jan 2016
As problematic as it is audacious and ambitious. It shatters all rules of what we expect a normal film to be making it a one of a kind experience. Yet the film demands almost everything from the audience.
We are expected to draw all of our own conclusions and meanings throughout the entire 2+ hours of poetic abstractivity. There's' so much beauty in the visuals and what I believe was the original thematic vision but I feel that a more grounded narrative could have helped provide direction amidst the whole experience without losing any of the artistic integrity.
