Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by The D — 05 Mar 2016
A masterpiece, simple as that. You either get it or you don't. Malick leaves it to you to discover the beauty, rather than do all the work for you, which for many is off putting for some. Instead of shouting or long monologues, inner dialogue is often whispered sparingly in voiceover.
Which is more annoying? In that you have your answer as to how you will receive this unique film. Stunning visuals with breathtaking music layers the experience, setting Malick apart from the rest. You either love it or find it self-important/indulgent.
It is truly anything but that.
