Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Bill B — 04 Feb 2008
A stellar look at the slow, methodical and demoralizing effects of greed. Humphrey Bogart gives a perfect, jaw-dropping performance as a decent man who is internally consumed by the promises of material goods.
It really reminded me of the character of Daniel Plainview. No surprise it's such a favorite of P.T. Anderson's. I did think the movie itself did drag in several unnecessary scenes, but the overall script, acting, cinematography, and ending make up for it overall.
Three cheas for this movie.
