Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Roman R — 10 Oct 2009
"Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life it will creep".
Is what comes to mind while watching Humphrey Bogart slowly unraveling into insanity. The fact that three men came into this situation with good intentions, and ultimately two come out, no richer or poorer than before they began is a true testament to what greed can do when you let it take over your life. Mans vulnerability, his will to survive and to ultimately overcome the pressure of making something of your life is on full display here. Greed is a powerful thing, and by the time you realize it?s in you, you've already gone too far. This film is masterfully directed by John Huston, and what a brilliant job of making this film he did. He challenges the viewer with Bogart; you like him, but can easily see the path he is on, and eventually what it will lead to. One of the great Humphrey Bogart films.
