Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Andreas O — 07 May 2011
As great as tale of the fruitless chase as was ever told, and a rich character study. Bogart plays a part not too common to his career and does so to great effect. The "curse of gold"-setup is haunting and memorable, the changing of the main character over the course of the story often imitated.
Unlike most A-movies of the time, The Treasure of Sierra Madre was filmed on location, which makes it feel much less dated than similar contemporary films.
